2025 Rules

 

1) Minimum 4, maximum 6 footers per team. 4 to 5 footer teams are allowed a permanent driver. 

2) Lane assignments and starting skier will be drawn by the team captain. For Safety at the start of the event you must stay in your lane for approx. 4 Miles. The act of cutting off another boat or skier will NOT be tolerated and will result in instant disqualification. Beat someone because you’re a Great footer, not because you endangered someone. The cut point will be clearly marked. 

3) Event is a relay, each team member must foot. Each person foots until they either fall or let go. Once the person is down the next person starts from the exact spot. You can not advance without a footer in tow. 

4) In the first 4 miles of the event, in the event of your skier falling, you must slow to idle and wait for other boats to pass by, turn your boat at idle speed and then pick up your skier. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY. Once you are safely past the 4 mile mark, power turns are acceptable if they are done safely and with respect to other boats in area. 

5) Each team member must foot, you cannot skip anyone in the rotation. The only exception is if the next footer is injured or unable to foot. Once a footer is out of the rotation, they are out of the race and cannot rejoin the rotation. This also applies to driving. 

6) AWSA approved tow boat supplied by each team, extended pylons are allowed 

7) Minimum 75’ foot tow rope from boat to handle 

8) No butt riding 

9) Skier must be in barefoot position 10 seconds from start of tow 

10) Barefoot position is having only the footers feet in the water. 

11) Skiers cannot butt check for rough water, in the event a skier butt checks the skier must let go. 

12) Tumble turn recoveries are not permitted once your feet have gone past 90 degrees from the body. If this occurs the skier must let go. 

13) No skis, kneeboards, or backwards starts. All starts are to be from front deepwater barefoot start. Backwards barefooting is allowed if skier can perform a front to back. 

14) All boats must have adequate safety items per the PA Fish and Game (life vests, fire extinguisher, whistle or horn, etc) All teams must abide by all PA Boating Laws and Regulations for Boaters and Skiers Safety. All boats must stay a safe distance from “non-race boats” – (fisherman & skiers). All boats must be properly insured with comprehension and liability coverage. Damage to equipment, vessels or person(s) is not the responsibility of event. 

15) The actual footer behind the boat must cross past the turn marker boat, and also cross the finish line. 

16) At each turn around, where there will be turn around  boats, the skier must drop and the next footer in the rotation must start.

There are no fuel stops at Mon Mania. If fuel is needed one of 3 points turn around boat on either end. If a team needs fuel they may either have their own fuel person/boat or carry it in a US EPA Certified fuel container.

Safety boats and spotter will be positioned throughout the race course. Any failure to comply with the above rules and/or unsafe operation will be grounds for disqualification. 

To improve safety - event may be run in heats to prevent bottlenecking and risk of injury on the course. If this takes place, there will not be a run-off between the winners of the heats. Winners will be determined by the best time recorded. 

Event may be postponed or rescheduled due to in climate weather or water conditions. In the rare circumstance of the events cancellation there will not be any refunds. 

** This event is for fun, skiers and drivers participating in event acknowledge that they ski at their own risk. All individuals competing must complete release forms or participation will not be allowed. 

Best times will be announced and awarded the day of the event. Winner’s Belt maybe worn that day, but should be returned to race coordinator to have their names and team name along with year engraved into belt!!!!!!!
